Family Visit Week One

Two week visit this year, from 29 July to 13 August.   It rained on their first day, but soon cleared up and we were rewarded with a double rainbow.

The children used to spend most of the holiday in the pool, but with Georgia 15 and Jack 19 they are a little old.  Comfortable daytime temperatures of below 30c meant that the pool was cooler than usual.

We miss the children in the pool, but it is nice to see Chloe making the most of it.   It seems like last year that Stuart was teaching her how to swim, now she is like a little mermaid in the water.

Jack cooked the evening meal of fajitas, which we all enjoyed on the naya.

We celebrated Georgia’s 15th birthday on 3 August

Michelle had brought her presents and cards to open here, and we had a cake.  It was a little hard to cut having been kept in the freezer, and we could not stick the candles in it.   But it tasted lovely despite all of that

We walked into Parcent one evening and took advantage of the play area outside the surgery.

The Wok in Javea has long been a favourite of Stuart and family, though Jan and I had never been there

Georgia asked to have a meal there for her birthday

We arrived quite early, so it was not too crowded

And it was mostly families, which suited us fine

The food was excellent, particularly the steak

And the birthday girl had a dozen different dishes

When they were younger the children loved visiting the font in Parcent, and playing with the running water.    They were a little less interested now that they are all older.

Our second meal was at our old favourite, The Imperial in Calpe.

It was just as friendly as ever, but I was surprised that it seemed to be not as busy as usual.

Jack, Georgia and Chloe spent all of their time on their phones or Ipad, and Chloe spent hours speaking to her friends in the UK.

27 June 2025 – Monday Ramblers Camino de Santiago Meal

23 of us met at the Cooperativa in Parcent to welcome Maureen, Lorraine, Andrew and Wally back from completing the Camino walk from St Jean de Pied to Santiago de Compestella.

Maureen and Lorraine walked the full 803 km of the French route in 54 days.   Andrew and Wally drove the two camper vans they used as mobile accommodation throughout the adventure.

It was lovely to see them again, looking so well, after their challenging and inspiring journey.

9 June 2025 – Jalon to Alcalali Mirador

We cancelled last week’s walk because I had a hospital appointment

Consequently we were really looking forward to this week

This was our first summer walk, when we start at 0800

We do the same walks, and aim to be in the bar by 1200

So hopefully we can avoid walking during the hottest part of the day

We had a larger group than I expected

Which included Julie and Don who are here for a couple of weeks

The temperatures were not too bad

But the humidity was 95%, which is very high

It was cloudy, so at least we did not have to worry about the sun

But we did have to take water breaks every half hour

We also went at a slower than normal pace

All of this made for a nice walk and no one had any problems

We had 19 walking today

I had expected less due to the heat

Because we did not walk last I had no idea who was available

I sent it to everyone I understood to be available

That made a total of 28

But fortunately 10 could not walk for various reasons

It is fortunate that this was the next walk on the list

It is a particularly easy walk, with no climbing

However it is exposed and has no shaded sections

But there are two picnic sites, the mirador and the Ermita

The Parcent Cooperativa was closed for holidays

But fortunately Bar Siremar was open

And there was plenty of space for us all

Temperature – 24 to 28c

Time Taken – 3 hours

Distance – 9 km
