15 September 2025 – Lliber to Senija

This September has been warmer than usual

So for our first two summer walks we started at the earlier time of 0830

However the forecast for today was a maximum of 29c

So I changed our start time to our usual 0900

I also selected the slightly longer Lliber to Senija walk

19 confirmed that they would join the walk

However four cancelled on Sunday

All had good reasons, but might have been helped by the new forecast of 30c

Normally we would not walk once temperatures reach 30c

But I didn’t want to cancel at such short notice

It was pleasantly cool when we met in Lliber square

Our group included one guest, David’s visitor Rita

Rita had walked with David on one of his guided mountain walk holidays

So was sure she could manage this valley walk.

There were some grumbles at the rough track

But none about the heat

Though it was feeling warmer as we reached Senija

Where we were looking forward to our banana break in the shaded square

We were not happy to find the square was filled with a large group of mature ladies keep fit class

Fortunately Taverna Llorenc was open and welcome our weary and thirsty group

We have never visited a bar in the middle of a walk before

But there was no other suitable alternative

The group did not complain, especially as David paid for the drinks

And I can see I may have problems in the future getting them past the square for our usual banana break in the square

I was a little concerned to note that the Farmacia clock showed a temperature of 32c

No one was in any hurry to start the return journey

Especially as it started with an uphill section out of the village

Fortunately a large part of the return was wooded, shady and cool

And we had a water stop every half hour

The last section of this was is very beautiful

But also very exposed

And we were all feeling the heat as we approached Lliber

And all agreed a second bar visit was very much in order

Those who still has a little energy left increased their pace to get to the bar a little quicker

Though most were content to plod along at a more moderate pace

It was surprisingly quiet at bar Varetes, despite good shelter from the large umbrellas

Well done to everyone for quite a challenging walk on such a hot day

Temperature – 18 to 32c

Time Taken – 4 hours

Distance – 10 km
